My visit in Sudan with John Bul Dau
Today I am staying with John Bul Dau, my friend. Tomorrow I have to go back home, but I hope I can make the most out of today. John lives in Duk County in Southern Sudan. This morning, I woke up to laughter and shouts of "Sabah al ghair", which means good morning. Even though John's hut was a little bit small, I enjoyed it because it felt very cozy. I went over and gave John a big hug. He asked me how I had slept and I said, "Great!"John told me that we were going to visit his medical clinic. I told John that my dad is a doctor and he would probably have a lot to talk about with him. Maybe the next time I visit Sudan, I will bring my dad to meet John. John introduced me to all of the people that came into his clinic. They were all so thankful for John's hard work. I could tell that John was very proud, but still acting very humble. Later John took me to his hut and I lay down on the bed for a while. I thought about my day and all the people I met and then made friends with. I can't wait to come to Duk County again. As a goodbye gift, John asked his village people to perform a goodbye dance for me. It was amazing and very thoughtful of all of them. They were very colorful and I will never forget that wonderful image. Goodbye, Sudan!

i liked how you said that john asked the people in the town to do a good bye dance fore you.
I like you explanation for such a short visit right at the beginning..."Sabah al ghair"...I can just imagine you and John hugging...talk of your dad...good research on his clinic...humility-I like that word, that character trait...good-bye dance...
Amanda, this may be short, but it is so full of detail and care. That shows what a good writer you are. As always, I can hear your voice as I follow you on your discoveries. All I felt was missing was a picture or some music.
I liked how you had a lot of good information in your post. I also like how you said you wanted to get the most out of that day and how they performed a goodbye dance and song.
I love how you used some of their language in you blog! You are an amazing writer!
I liked the way you expressed your blog....Very creative. Ur friend Jared.
Great job Amanda! I liked that you included examples of the language in Sudan like, "Sabah al ghair". I'm glad you also translated the phrase afterwards. Your writing is very easy to understand.

I love how you took the time to look up and actually find what good morning means.
"This morning, I woke up to laughter and shouts of "Sabah al ghair", which means good morning"
I love the "goodbye dance" I think it was a very good Idea.
"Sabah al ghair" I love your using the language...cozy...hug...link to clinic..humbly proud John...goodbye dance...
Amanda, I bet John really loved his visit with you and would love for you to come back. Traveling with you is so easy. Your words are such a quiet and observant guide. You used a link well to get us to the clinic. I only wished I could see or hear some of your visit...the music of the dance...the color of their costumes perhaps.
